TECH TIP | Juice on the Trail

If you’re looking for a great auxillary power option to charge your cell phone, camera, or gps while way out in the boonies; the Powerlet has proved to be a reliable option. One of the coolest things about taking this route is that the outlet is wired with a fuse directly to the bike’s power source. This allows you to simply plug a battery tender directly into the outlet to charge the bike’s battery in case it gets a little low on juice.

Keep in mind though if you’re planning on doing something like this to your machine, the Powerlet is not the standard size automobile DC outlet. It’s actually considerably smaller to keep it very low profile so you’ll need to pick up an adapter in order to use conventional chargers.

Also in the configuration pictured, the powerlet has been integrated into the bike's handlebar clamps but of course a hole can be drilled anywhere you'd like in your bike's plastics to house the outlet.
